How ClubLogic uses your permissions

Last updated: April 30, 2026

ClubLogic asks for OS-level permissions on your phone: Location, Bluetooth, Notifications, and — only when you opt into voice scoring — Microphone and Speech Recognition. Each one unlocks specific features, and you can turn any of them off without breaking the app. Location and Bluetooth do very different jobs — they are not redundant, and Bluetooth is not used to determine your location.

What each permission does

Permission What it unlocks What we do with the data
Location — While Using Places you on the live course map and tells teammates where you are while the ClubLogic app is open. GPS-based. Coordinates stream over a secure socket to the server only when you're inside your club's property buffer. They live in memory for 10 minutes and are never written to a coordinate database.
Location — Always Everything "While Using" does, plus: automatic arrival detection when you drive onto the property, a welcome notification, persistent presence on the live map while the app is in your pocket, and off-property side-game discovery. Shows an iOS "blue pill" / Android ongoing notification while tracking is active. A low-power heartbeat sends a position every ~5 minutes, only when you're inside the club buffer. Outside the buffer, the app still holds the permission but sends nothing.
Bluetooth Peer-to-peer identification between ClubLogic members. Example: when you and a few other members are at the first tee, in the parking lot, on the driving range, or even off-property (a bar, a range across town), your phones recognize each other as ClubLogic users and surface each other in the "Add Player" picker when you start a match. Your phone broadcasts a fixed, anonymous ClubLogic service identifier and scans for the same identifier on other members' phones. No name, email, coordinates, or other personal data is transmitted over Bluetooth. On Android the scan is compiled with the neverForLocation flag — the OS itself blocks any attempt to derive location from Bluetooth. Bluetooth is not used for location detection.
Notifications Allows ClubLogic to display push alerts: nearby-player notifications ("there's another ClubLogic member around — want to share location?"), teammate arrivals, chat messages, comment replies, and new round reports. Our server sends the push content. Apple, Google, or your browser delivers it. You can mute specific categories anytime from Settings → Notifications inside the app.
Microphone & Speech Recognition (iOS asks for both; only when you tap the mic to use voice scoring) Score holes hands-free. Tap the mic on the scorecard, speak each player's score for the hole — "Mike four, Craig five, Jason birdie, Tony par" — and ClubLogic turns it into the same row of numbers you'd otherwise tap in. Also captures audio with videos you record to share to chat. Transcription runs entirely on your iPhone via Apple's Speech framework — your voice never leaves the device. ClubLogic only ever receives the resulting text, which the AI scorer matches against the players in your foursome to produce structured score updates. We don't store the audio, and we don't send it to Apple's servers (we explicitly require on-device recognition).

What we don't do: We don't sell your location or any personal data. We don't share location with advertisers. Your coordinates are never stored in a database — they live in memory only while you're at the club and expire after 10 minutes. Bluetooth is not used to determine your location at any time.

Your setup Live map position at the club Auto at-club detection on arrival Appear in teammates' Nearby picker Chat, comment & report push alerts Off-property member discovery (Bluetooth) Blue pill / ongoing tracking indicator
Always + Bluetooth + Notifications — everything on Yes, continuously Yes (GPS geofence + club Wi-Fi) Yes, directly Yes Yes Yes, while at the club
Always + Bluetooth on, Notifications off Yes, continuously Yes Yes No alerts; messages appear in-app when you open it Yes Yes
Always + Bluetooth off + Notifications on Yes, continuously Yes (via GPS geofence) Yes when you're at the club; not off-property Yes No Yes
While Using + Bluetooth + Notifications Only while the app is open Only if you open the app on arrival; otherwise a nearby verified member's sighting can promote you via the peer mesh Yes — your phone broadcasts the anonymous peer identifier when the app is open Yes Yes while the app is open; on a brief foreground burst No
While Using + Bluetooth off + Notifications on Only while the app is open Only if you open the app on arrival, or if you're on the club's Wi-Fi (the server can promote you by IP match) No Yes No No
Location denied + Bluetooth on + Notifications on Not plotted on the map A nearby verified member can "spot" you over Bluetooth; the server lists you as Maybe At Club Yes — a teammate with GPS will see you in their Nearby list Yes Yes No
Location denied + Bluetooth off + Notifications on No No No Yes No No
Everything denied No No No No push alerts No No. App still works for chat, feed, reports, analytics, rankings, projections, and map view.

Key things to know

Bluetooth is peer-to-peer, not a location signal

ClubLogic uses Bluetooth to let two member phones recognize each other as ClubLogic users when they're in range. The most common use case is the Add Player picker when you start a match — members who are physically near you get surfaced so you don't have to search a roster. Your phone broadcasts an anonymous ClubLogic identifier; no name, email, coordinates, or other personal data goes over the air. Location is detected only by GPS, never by Bluetooth. On Android, the scan is explicitly compiled with the neverForLocation flag that prevents the OS from using Bluetooth scans to determine location.

Location and Bluetooth combine to form a four-state presence model

Under the hood, ClubLogic tracks four possible states for each member: Away (default, no recent signal), Maybe at the club (another member's Bluetooth saw you near the property — unverified), At the club (GPS geofence or club-Wi-Fi confirmed), and Spotted away (you and another member saw each other off-property — useful for pickup games at the range or a bar). Each state carries a rolling TTL that expires automatically if no fresh signal arrives.

"While Using" is weaker than most golfers expect

Arrival detection, the welcome push when you pull into the lot, and teammate arrival alerts all rely primarily on Always location. If you only grant "While Using," the app can still promote you to At Club via (a) you opening the app while on the club's Wi-Fi, or (b) another verified member detecting you via Bluetooth — but both require you to do something.

Notifications off doesn't break the app

Chat, the feed, the live map, analytics, round reports, projections — all work whether you allow notifications or not. You just won't see alerts pop up; you'll see the same content when you open the app.

Voice scoring is on-device — your audio never leaves the phone

iOS shows two consecutive prompts the first time you tap the mic on the scorecard: one for Microphone (so the app can capture audio at all) and one for Speech Recognition (so Apple's on-device Speech framework can transcribe it). They're separate by Apple's design — there's no API to combine them — but they only appear once. We pin recognition to on-device mode, so even Apple's servers don't see the audio; if your iPhone can't run the on-device model for your locale you'll see "Didn't catch that" and can retry rather than have audio sent off-device. ClubLogic only ever receives the resulting transcript text, which the AI scorer maps to the players in your foursome.

Nothing is shared with advertisers

ClubLogic has no advertising business model. Your data — location, scores, messages, anything — is used only to deliver the platform's features to you and your club.

Projections are statistical forecasts expressed as percentages. They do not initiate, authorize, calculate, or determine a Club Cash transfer.

Changing a permission later

All three permissions are adjustable any time:

Web users: if you use ClubLogic in a browser instead of the mobile app, permissions are handled by your browser's geolocation prompt and Web Push subscription. Bluetooth is not available on the web — the peer-to-peer identification feature is mobile-only.
